Program Overview
The Veteran’s Day Banner Program, a Grayling Main Street committee, is proud to offer a new opportunity, to honor your favorite Veteran or Active Duty Service Person.  Each year the committee will coordinate the display of over 80 Veteran’s Day Banners along Michigan Ave, starting in Downtown Grayling and continuing across town to the Grayling Elementary School. The banners will be displayed for approximately six weeks, beginning the last week of September, with removal being the week of Veteran’s Day, November 11th.

The money collected from this program will cover the cost of implementation, and the profits will benefit three groups in the Grayling community:

Special notes about 2019:


In 2019 GMSt will offer two sponsorship opportunities to those wishing to honor their loved one with a banner.  Forty (40) 1-year displays for $100 each, and forty (40) 2-year displays for $200 each, will be available in 2019.  The inaugural year (2019) will be the only time 1-year displays will be permitted.  In the event we are unable to fill all 80 poles in the first year we will offer a limited number of 1-year displays in 2020.  When you complete your application please indicate your preference between a 1-year or 2-year display. We will fill the available slots on a first-in-first-filled basis following the lottery selection of applicants. Each application will be dated upon arrival.  Please see the Standard Program Details for required materials and information.  Applications for 2019 may be submitted beginning November 1st, 2019.  In subsequent years the application period will be as outlined in the Standard Program Details.  Those who receive a 1-year display in the inaugural year (2019) will be permitted 2 renewal option, for a maximum of 5 consecutive years of display.

Standard Program Details

  • Sponsor may choose to honor an active duty service person or veteran (alive or deceased).
  • Sponsor and/or veteran/active duty service member must live, work, or atively volunteer in Crawford County, Michigan at time of first display.
  • Grayling Main Street will not verify military status, we will ask the applicant attest to the accuracy of the veteran/service member’s status as a former or active member of any branch of the United State Armed Services.
  • Veteran’s Day Banner Program Application period begins January 1st of the display year, applications must be returned by the 3rd Friday of August of the display year.
  • The committee will hold a lottery drawing for open banner poles annually on the 4th Friday of August. It will be broadcast on the Grayling Main Street Facebook page.
  • Banners will be displayed for two (2) consecutive years.
  • One (1) renewal option will be offered after two (2) years, for an additional two (2) years of display for a maximum of four (4) consecutive years of display.
  • Renewal rate is the same at the original rate.
  • Banners that are renewed will only be replaced if necessary.
  • Upon banner retirement, the banner will be presented to the sponsor.
  • Banner selection is based on a lottery basis, in the event there are applications in excess of available poles.
  • Banner location is at the sole discretion of the committee.  Requested locations will be accommodated to the best of the committee’s ability but are not guaranteed.
  • Banner placement will rotate from year to year, with an attempt to minimize the duplication of individual banners in the central Downtown district.
  • Upon selection, applicants will be notified by email, and will have 2 weeks to provide the following if it has not been submitted with the original application:
    • Digital image of the service member, preferably in uniform, but if that is unavailable a nice headshot of the service member will suffice. If you do not have a digital copy please inform the GMSt office as soon as possible
    • Verification of the proper spelling of the name and rank you want displayed.
    • Verification of the branch(es) of service.
    • Verification of the service years OR conflict(s) you want displayed.
    • Check for $200, made payable to Grayling Main Street, with the memo, Veteran’s Day Banner Program
  • Any applicants that have not returned the required information within the provided window will be disqualified and a replacement applicant will be drawn.  The same expectation will be bestowed upon the replacement applicant.
  • Grayling Main Street, the City of Grayling, and the Grayling Veteran’s Day Banner Program Committee reserve the right to amend the rules at any time and cancel or postpone the display of banners, with or without notice.
  • Participants will be asked to sign a waiver for their image and commentary to be used by Grayling Main Street and the Committee.
  • Banners will not be ordered until payment has been received.
  • No refunds will be provided for banners that have been ordered or printed.
